Mr. Animesh Banerjee has
been associated with the dairy sector for
more than four decades. He is, by profession,
a Chemical Engineer and started with the dairy
sector as a Design-cum-Project Engineer with
a multinational British Company dealing with
establishment of dairying and food processing
plants globally. Subsequently, Mr. Banerjee
joined a premier institution in India, i.e.
the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB),
at its initial stage, under the leadership
of Dr. V. Kurien, the father of White Revolution,
in India. He was associated with the establishment
of several milk processing factories as well
as cooperative institutions dealing with agro-based
commodities. To his credit, he was responsible
for establishment of around 100 dairy/allied
food processing units.
While in NDDB, Mr. Banerjee was associated
with the planning and implementation of the
world’s largest dairy development programme
i.e. Operation Flood Programme. He was responsible
for dealing with several multilateral agencies
viz. World Bank, FAO and the other United
Nations Agencies in connection with the policy
issues related to the implementation of the
various programmes of the NDDB.
Mr. Banerjee was associated with the management
of several organisations including the management
of Mother Dairy in Delhi and Calcutta. He
was in the Board of management of several
premier institutions in India like the National
Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Anand, the
National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI),
Karnal, the National Cooperative Dairy Federation
of India Ltd. (NCDFI), Anand and the National
Cooperative Union of India Ltd. (NCUI), Delhi.
He was a former member in the Board of Management
of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products
Export Development Authority (APEDA), Govt.
of India. He was a member of the Quinquennial
Review Team to review the work done by the
NDRI appointed by the Indian Council of Agricultural
Research, Government of India.
He is also a member
of the Indian National Committee of the International
Dairy Federation. He has been the Chairperson
of the Dairy Sub-group of the 9th, 10th &
11th Five Year Plan of the Government of India.
Mr. Banerjee is the Chairperson of the Milk
Panel, under Technology Vision—2020,
Mission Projects on Agro-food Processing,
TIFAC, Government of India. He is a member
of the Policy Advisory Group (PAG) of Indian
Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad.
He is also a member of the Food and Agriculture
Division Council (FADC) of the Bureau of Indian
Standards. He has also been appointed as the
member of Appellate Authority on Export Inspection
of Milk Products, constituted by the Central
Government. Visiting Faculty in Haryana Institute
of Public Administration (HIPA), Gurgaon.
Recently, he has been appointed as the Advisor,
by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC),
New Delhi.
Mr. Banerjee has also been advising as a consultant
for conducting feasibility studies, review
and appraisal as well as establishment of
the dairy and food processing projects in
India and abroad. He was responsible for the
preparation of a dairy programme for the Government
of Senegal as well as undertook, several consultancy
assignments in different countries abroad.
Mr. Banerjee has represented, time-to-time,
the country at various international fora.
He was the Chairman of the Editorial
Board of the two leading journals i.e. Indian
Journal of Dairy Science (IJDS) and the Indian
Dairyman (ID). While IJDS is a research periodical,
the ID is the mouthpiece of the Indian dairy
sector. He has to his credit published several
articles, on the different aspects, including
policy issues, connected with the dairy and
food processing sectors, which have been highly
acclaimed, both in India and abroad.
