Dr. Satish Kulkarni a graduate of Mysore University obtained his Diploma and Doctoral degree in Dairy Technology from the National Dairy Research Institute, Bangalore and Karnal. Later he spent 2 years in Germany for post-doctoral research. Recently Dr. Kulkarni has been awarded PG diploma in Intellectual property rights by the National Law School University, Hyderabad.

Dr. Kulkarni is principal scientist and heading the department of Dairy Technology at SRS of NDRI for the past 18 years. He is an active researcher guiding students for M.Tech and doctoral programmes. The scientific group headed by Dr. Kulkarni has published several research papers in Indian and overseas journal and have assisted more than 80 food and dairy plants in product development, quality control and other activities.

Dr. Kulkarni was the President of the Association of Food Scientists & Technologists (Bangalore chapter), President of Alumni Association, NDRI, Bangalore and has served the Indian Dairy Association (SZ) in various capacities. The group has been awarded prizes several times for their scientific contribution. Recently Dr. Kulkarni has been selected as a Fellow of the Association of Food Scientists &Technologists, Mysore. Dr. Kulkarni was the Secretary General of the 34th dairy industry conference organized at Bangalore in 2005.
