Vitamin E to Bust Heat Stress in Cows

Abstract

"High environmental temperature combined with high humidity causes heat stress in dairy cows. This adversely affects the performance and health of the cow and results in decrease in productivity. Periods of heat stress are less profitable for dairyman. Fans and sprinkling evaporative cooling systems have come into widespread use for lactating dairy cows which are cost effective and advantageous. Heat stress generally increases the production of free radicals, leading to oxidative stress. The use of anti-oxidants such as vitamin E reduces the impact of heat stress on the oxidative balance, resulting in improved milk quality and cow's health."
