AAU to Organise Conference on “Fermented Foods, Health Status and Social Well-being”

TSwedish South Asian Network on Fermented Foods — an association of researchers, professionals, academicians, food industry personnel and all those who are interested in research, development and promotion of fermented foods, is organizing the Third International Conference on “Fermented Foods, Health Status and Social Well-being”.

The conference is to be held during December 14-15, 2007 at Anand Agricultural University (AAU), Anand, Gujarat. The programme will be organized in collaboration with AAU, Anand; Department of Applied Nutrition, Lund University, Sweden, Trace Element Institute of UNESCO, France and National Dairy Development Board, Anand.

The main objective of the programme is to present a forum for deliberations on R & D, Educational, Industrial and Extension activities in the area of fermented foods with a focus on their technological, microbiological, clinical, nutritional and sociological aspects. The forum also aims at encouraging inter-institutional collaborative (network) research projects and industry link-ups.

Scientists, teachers & research scholars of food science and technology, practitioners from medical colleges, professionals concerned with community nutrition and social medicine, R & D workers from food processing, dairy and allied industries and any body who is interested in application of fermented foods can participate in the conference.

Indian Dairy Association (Kerala Chapter) and College of Dairy Science & Technology, Mannuthy, Thrissur, Kerala is organising a National Seminar On “Future Prospects of Milk-based Health Foods” at Seminar Hall, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy, Thrissur on November 3, 2007.

Modern dairy industry focuses on processing milk for maximizing health benefits. Though market trends predict a bright future for such milk-based health foods, the health foods sector in India is very much novice. This seminar aims to give an insight into the scientific credibility of health claims. It also attempts to highlight innovative approaches for value addition, so as to motivate entrepreneurs to market dairy foods with boosted health benefits.
